Update: Cinnamon Rolls

Ok, so I was just impatient.  They rose beautifully, and -- in fact -- are by far the best cinnamon rolls I've ever made.  I'd share my recipe with you, but then I couldn't hold my supremacy over you head like a dangling participle in a run-sentence.  (Ok, not really -- but I wanted to use dangling participle.  It just sounds so.... naughty!)

Deflated.

Sometimes I wish that by the time I get ready for bed at night, I wish I could go back and just completely forget the day ever happened.  Today would be one of those days.  Most of the crap in my head is going to stay in my home, I just need some sort of written catharsis so that it doesn't come out of my head in the form of high blood pressure or bloody pee or something weird like that.

I've been feeling a downward trend lately -- which I suppose is expected now that I'm moved into the new house, things are settling down, Kidaj is feeling at home.  I just hate that -- being in a new environment -- meeting people can be so hard.  I have no neighbors as of yet, unless you can the 75 year old woman who lives a house and a half down from me.  I'm sure her and i could kick it all night, let me tell you.  And what's even worse -- I DO meet someone and then turn out to not be what/who I thought they were.  So disappointing.  Seriously.

So I've been spending a lot of time baking and cooking -- which is good, I enjoy it.  Until things like tonite (of all days), my bread doesn't rise.  And all I can say to that is MOTHERFUCKER.  *sigh*

Anyway.  Now I have to debate if I should go try to make this again, or give up.

Not-So-DirectTV

I received my first bill from DirectTV yesterday -- the first bill from them since I moved to this new location.  Initially, when I was going to move, I had planned on canceling my service and going with ATT because it would be cheaper.  The guy wanted to keep me (of course) and offered me all kinds of discounts.  Ultimately, I was given:

6 months free HBO
6 months free Showtime
Free DVR
Free DVR Service for a year (because it would take them two weeks to get someone out to install it)
$10 monthly discount for a year

All this for wanting to cancel and because ATT would give me a similar package for $37.

So I get my first bill yesterday, and I noticed that they had deactivated my two previous box things ($12), and they had charged me a $20 shipping/handling fee.

So I called last nite to work out the issues.  They removed the boxes and discounted that from my bill (good for them), but they would not budge on the shipping/handling fee.

This is where I have an issue.  DirectTV advertises that when you move, they'll install the equipment for free.  That's on the TV commercials and even on the message on their phone hold system.  No where does it say anything about having to pay a shipping/handling fee.  I finally ended up speaking with a supervisor about the issue who told me she would not remove the fee, that I'm getting all this free stuff and that I should be happy with what I'm getting and just pay the $20.

See -- that is not the point.  I could pay the $20. It's just $20.  But the point is that no one ever said anything about having to pay a $20 fee.  That's 1/3 of my bill.  So needless to say, I'm a little upset and disappointed in DirectTV for using deceptive advertising.

Bienvenidos a mi Quinceanera!

¡Hola! I awoke this morning in the hot and steamy jungles of southern Mexico, swatting away a giant fly that circled my face like a second hand on a clock.  I thought, "¡Ah! Mejico!" and took a swig of tequila.  I put on my boots (checking for snakes, spiders, and pin worms) and began my journey further into the jungle.

Oddly, I began to hear music, a jilting celebratory music.  I thought perhaps a coronation or human sacrifice, and I followed the steady beat, only to find a small group of people dressed in brightly colored clothes swinging away at a pinata.  Everyone was shouting and drinking and dancing.

Then I opened my eyes and i was back in my bedroom -- but oddly the music continued.  I put on a shirt and walked to the window, parting the blinds slowly so as not to be noticed.  And to my amazement, I saw a horde of immigrant workers line dancing to tejano music on the freshly poured slab of my neighboring construction.

Ok, ok.  They weren't line dancing.  One of them WAS dancing tho.  And one of the sad little (gay) boys who had to be ... i dunno ... 23 or 24 was in a green stripped polo-esque shirt with the collar turned up.  I wanted to stage an intervention there, but that would have required me to put on pants.

So thus my day began.

Again.
