Not-So-DirectTV
I received my first bill from DirectTV yesterday -- the first bill from them since I moved to this new location. Initially, when I was going to move, I had planned on canceling my service and going with ATT because it would be cheaper. The guy wanted to keep me (of course) and offered me all kinds of discounts. Ultimately, I was given:
6 months free HBO
6 months free Showtime
Free DVR
Free DVR Service for a year (because it would take them two weeks to get someone out to install it)
$10 monthly discount for a year
All this for wanting to cancel and because ATT would give me a similar package for $37.
So I get my first bill yesterday, and I noticed that they had deactivated my two previous box things ($12), and they had charged me a $20 shipping/handling fee.
So I called last nite to work out the issues. They removed the boxes and discounted that from my bill (good for them), but they would not budge on the shipping/handling fee.
This is where I have an issue. DirectTV advertises that when you move, they'll install the equipment for free. That's on the TV commercials and even on the message on their phone hold system. No where does it say anything about having to pay a shipping/handling fee. I finally ended up speaking with a supervisor about the issue who told me she would not remove the fee, that I'm getting all this free stuff and that I should be happy with what I'm getting and just pay the $20.
See -- that is not the point. I could pay the $20. It's just $20. But the point is that no one ever said anything about having to pay a $20 fee. That's 1/3 of my bill. So needless to say, I'm a little upset and disappointed in DirectTV for using deceptive advertising.
